Becks Mill

Brenda and myself started volunteering at Becks Mill - An old mill from 1808 that recently restarted operations.

First I skimmed the leaves out of the retaining pool fed by the cave spring.

Then I opened up the water and let it start powering the overshot waterwheel and turbine.

Then I went down to the mill and started grinding corn

Brenda worked in the concession stand.

Wind Storm

On September 14th a wind storm from hurricane Ike blew through with 80 mph winds. It toppled a lot of trees and punched a hole if the roof of my house. Below you will find some pictures from the devastation.

Journey of Remembrance

Today my family and I traveled to Rockport Indiana and witnessed the launching of the flatboat recreating Lincoln’s 1828 journey to New Orleans.

While Lincoln was building his flatboat he stayed in one of my ancestor’s homes. A humorous story about Lincoln and my family can be found here

A plaque was also dedicated commemorating the journey and Lincoln’s immortal saying “If I ever get a chance to hit that thing, I’ll hit it hard”

We also located Greathouse Road and Greathouse Cemetery near Lewisport Kentucky

The Greathouse Cemetery can be found at
N 37 degrees 57′ 29.5″
W 86 degrees 50′ 26.2″
A listing of the stones can be found here
