Today my family and I traveled to Rockport Indiana and witnessed the launching of the flatboat recreating Lincoln’s 1828 journey to New Orleans.
While Lincoln was building his flatboat he stayed in one of my ancestor’s homes. A humorous story about Lincoln and my family can be found here
A plaque was also dedicated commemorating the journey and Lincoln’s immortal saying “If I ever get a chance to hit that thing, I’ll hit it hard”
We also located Greathouse Road and Greathouse Cemetery near Lewisport Kentucky

The Greathouse Cemetery can be found at
N 37 degrees 57′ 29.5″
W 86 degrees 50′ 26.2″
A listing of the stones can be found here

This blog post is a work in progress documenting the trips in Indiana and Kentucky that I have taken with my family to find out more about our ancestors. I have pages setup that document my pionner ancestors in Kentucky and their migration to Indiana in the early 1800’s. Information will be slowly added to these posts as I gather additional information.
The following links document my Grandparents, Hugh and Margaret Greathouse and Hugh’s parents Jacob and Bessie Lee Hales Greathouse. I also have info about Bessie Lee’s parents, the Civil War Hero, Hugh Hales and Jacob’s parents, James and Catherine Scammahorn Greathouse. I also have posts about Catherine’s parents Jacob and Jane Scammahorn and James’s parents John and Elizabeth Grass Greathouse
I also have info about both John and Elizabeth’s parents, Harman and Mercy Greathouse and Daniel and Jane Smithers Grass and Jane Smither’s father, my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather Bill Smithers

Margaret Blessing moved to Rockport Indiana during the 1920’s to teach school. There she met Hugh Greathouse and they were married. They would later move to Port Washington, WI during the great depression, hearing there was work. In Port Washington Margaret taught school for many years and Hugh was a welder.
Hugh graduated from Rockport High School in 1916. He was the artist for the first yearbook ‘Beech Leeves’. Below is his high school picture and a few examples of his art work.
