The gathering of nuts is progressing nicely. After running over the walnuts in the driveway for a few weeks, I raked up over nine 5 gallon buckets with their husks removed. They are now drying out and hopefully be ready for cracking in a week or two. I also gathered another 10 buckets of walnuts and dropped them in the driveway, bringing my total to 50 five gallon buckets. Hopefully those will be ready in a couple of weeks along with the 2 or so buckets of nuts that haven’t rippened yet.
I also also husked the hickory nuts, yeilding over 33 lbs of nuts with their shells still on. I will be cracking the hickory nuts within the next few days.
I found a double walnut and a double hickory nut. The rare double walnut is pictured at the top of this post. The double hickory nut seen above also shows how they appear with their husks still on.
